Genesis has begun a steady transition to more sustainable automotive luxury, recently launching its first all-electric model, the 2023 GV60, in select American markets, with electrified versions of the G80 and GV70 set to follow soon after. In addition to first-class accommodations and premium amenities, the all-new Genesis GV60 delivers plenty of driving excitement. With a max power output of 483 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, the GV60 Performance can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just four seconds.

The GV60 also provides practical range, with Advanced and Performance models achieving EPA-estimated distance-per-charge ratings of 248 and 235 miles, respectively. And thanks to its versatile and cutting-edge charging technology, the GV60 is pleasantly easy to live with. But what's the best way to charge it? Here's a quick overview of the three primary options:

Level 1

The most basic charging method is to use the provided Level 1 portable charging cable, which plugs directly into a standard three-prong 120V household-style wall outlet. Due to the low current draw and trickle-type charging, this method applies the least stress on the battery. The trade-off is its long charge time. With Level 1 charging, the Genesis GV60 adds an average of 3.5 miles of range per hour, needing about 68 hours to charge from 0% to 100%.

However, it is recommended to never allow an EV battery to deplete completely. Maintaining a charge level between 10% and 80% capacity is ideal for ensuring its longevity. And depending on your daily commute, this could be quite viable, as you can add approximately 42 miles of range by charging for 12 hours overnight.

Level 2

Level 2 charging requires 240V (@7.2 to 11 kW) equipment, similar to the power required by a clothes dryer. Capable of replenishing the GV60's battery from 10% to 100% in a little under 12 hours (~21 miles of range per hour), Level 2 equipment can be easily installed at home by an electrician and provides an ideal blend of faster charge times and minimized battery stress. It's also commonly found in public parking lots, and many businesses have begun installing stations for their employees.

Level 3

While steady charging is ideal for everyday use, you'll eventually want to take your EV on a longer road trip. And thanks to the GV60's ultra-fast charging capability, that becomes a real possibility. The GV60's onboard charger supports 350kW equipment, commonly found in high-traffic areas and highway rest stops. At one of these stations, the GV60 can replenish 10 to 80% capacity in just 18 minutes.
